June 20 - Argentina 2-0 Canada - Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

The opening match of CONMEBOL Copa América kicked off the tournament’s festival atmosphere with a pre-match concert performed by Feid. Defending champs Argentina prevailed past a strong Canadian side, while Leo Messi broke the record for the most ever appearances in the tournament.

Chile manager Ricardo Gareca faced his former team Peru in Group A’s closing match of round one. It was a hard-fought 0-0 draw with both teams refusing to give an inch to their opponent. Alexis Sanchez came the closest to scoring, but in the end both team’s left their first match at the tournament with a point.

June 22 - Ecuador 1-2 Venezuela - Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

In one of the Group Stage’s most exciting matches so far, Venezuela won their first come from victory at CONMEBOL Copa América™, scoring two goals from substitutes in the second half to defeat Ecuador 1-2.

June 22 - Mexico 1-0 Jamaica - NRG Stadium, Houston,Texas

Mexico’s team full of tournament debutants started the competition off with three points when they defeated their Concacaf rivals Jamaica in Group B. It seemed Jamaica had scored their first ever goal in the tournament before it was ruled off by VAR in the 50’ and then El Tri scored the winner in the 69’.

A brilliant performance from U.S. captain Christian Pulisic ensured the hosts would leave their opening match with all three points. He scored just three minutes into the match and then assisted in the Stars and Stripes second goal, earning him Superior Player of the Match honors.

Legendary Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa marked his return to CONMEBOL Copa América™ with a win, leading his Uruguay side past a tough Panama team. The squad from Concacaf gave La Celeste fits for a good portion of the match before the 15-time tournament champs finally put the game to bed late in the second half

A vintage James Rodriguez performance powered Colombia past a resolute Paraguayan defense. The midfielder recorded both assists on Los Cafeteros’ two goals scored by Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Munoz with well placed crosses. Young Paraguayan sensation Julio Enciso scored the lone goal for Paraguay.

An incredible defensive performance by Concacaf guests Costa Rica sent Los Ticos home with a point shared against a frustrated Brazilian side. Brazil dominated possession, but the Costa Rican backline remained organized and diligent to keep the nine-time tournament winners out of their net. Young Brazilian star Endrick also made his competitive debut.
