About the Copa América The Copa America is the oldest national team tournament in the world. It was played for the first time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June 1916. Some of the best and most recognized athletes in football are South American and will play in the 46th edition of the tournament, from June 14th to July 7th. The main football tournament for men between South American teams will be held for the fifth time in Brazil and will be organized by the Local Organizing Committee - CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019. By coincidence, the event returns in the year that completes the 100 years of the first edition on Brazilian ground - 1919. Brazil also hosted the event in 1922, 1949 and 1989. In addition to the ten South American CONMEBOL member countries (Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), Japan and Qatar, members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), participate as guests. Nine FIFA World Cup titles are gathered on the field. The 26 matches will be distributed in six stadiums in the host cities: Estadio Mineirão (Belo Horizonte), Arena do Grêmio (Porto Alegre), Estádio do Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro), Arena Fonte Nova (Salvador), Arena Corinthians and Estádio Morumbi (both in São Paulo).
