  • For the second matchday of Group A, the teams of Ricardo Gareca and Lionel Scaloni will face each other.
  • In 2016, they played the final of the CONMEBOL Copa América Centenario™ in the same stadium.

This Tuesday, June 25th, Group A will have its second chapter. Chile drew in their first match, while Argentina achieved a victory in the opening match.

The team led by Ricardo Gareca had a goalless draw in their opener against Peru and is seeking a good result to position themselves in the group for the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the current champion of the tournament secured a 2-0 victory against Canada and could qualify for the next stage of the oldest international tournament in the world with another win.

The final of the CONMEBOL Copa América Centenario 2016™ featured the same rivals in the same stadium, with Chile winning on penalties. Seven players are part of the squads and could play again this Tuesday: Bravo, Isla, Alexis Sánchez, and Eduardo Vargas for Chile; Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María, and Nicolás Otamendi for Argentina.

Key Points to Consider:

  • Frequent Opponents: Chile is the third team to have faced Argentina the most times in the CONMEBOL Copa América™ (29 matches), behind Brazil (34 matches) and Uruguay (32 matches).
  • Claudio Bravo's Record: Claudio Bravo is the third player from Chile with the most matches played in the CONMEBOL Copa América™ (26), one behind Gary Medel (27). Of the eight players who have played more than 20 matches for La Roja in the tournament, half are in the current squad: Mauricio Isla, Alexis Sánchez, Eduardo Vargas, and the aforementioned Bravo.
  • Shooting Statistics: Argentina took 19 shots against Canada in their debut in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™, one more than Chile and Peru combined in their opening match (18). La Albiceleste also had more shots on target (9) than the other three members of their group combined (7).
  • Messi's Participation: Lionel Messi has participated in 35 of Argentina's 36 matches in the CONMEBOL Copa América™ since his debut. The exception was a group stage match against Chile: a 2-1 victory for La Albiceleste in 2016.
