Argentina book their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ semifinals

Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 after extra time and qualified for the Semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. La Albiceleste will be the only CONMEBOL representative in the tournament’s penultimate stage.

The reigning world champions overcame a demanding challenge against Switzerland and qualified for the Semifinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, where they will look for a place in another Final.

Argentina once again showed their character

The Argentina National Team took another step in their title defense after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by defeating Switzerland 3-1 after extra time.

Lionel Scaloni’s team opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Alexis Mac Allister, but the European side equalized in the 67th minute through Dan Ndoye, sending the match into extra time.

When the match appeared to be heading toward penalties, La Albiceleste once again showed their quality. Julián Álvarez put Argentina back in front in the 112th minute and, in added time of the second period of extra time, Lautaro Martínez sealed qualification with the final 3-1 scoreline.

With this victory, Argentina reached the Semifinals of the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive tournament and continues to be one of the competition’s biggest protagonists.
