At 37 years old, Luis Suárez announced the end of a golden era: the striker will retire from the Uruguayan national team.
"The Friday will be my last match with the national team. It's something I've been thinking about: this is the right time," said "El Pistolero" in a press conference.
Suárez made his debut with "La Celeste" on February 7, 2007, against Colombia. He played a total of 142 matches: 69 wins, 41 draws, and 32 losses. He scored 69 goals in 11,191 minutes (1 goal every 162 minutes), making him the top scorer in the history of the Uruguayan national team.
In his first CONMEBOL Copa América™, held in Argentina in 2011, Suárez finished with 4 goals (one of the tournament's top scorers), and Uruguay was crowned champion.
Called up by Marcelo Bielsa for the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers, he will have his farewell on the pitch.
