Peru secure their first win in Group B against Colombia

With a goal from Sergio Peña and an own goal from Yerry Mina, Peru picked their first 3 points in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021. Miguel Borja scored a penalty for Colombia in a game that finished 2-1.

Colombia started the better of the two teams with Duvan Zapata, Cuadrado and Borja posing a threat. Despite this it was Peru who were first able to find the net.

Yoshimar Yotún hit a powerful shot from range which hit the post allowing Sergio Peña to dispatch in the area to give Peru the lead.

Minutes into the second half Edwin Cardona slipped a perfect through ball for Borja who was tripped as he rounded the goalkeeper. Borja took the penalty kick himself and sent Gallese the wrong way to equalize.

The game was level but the Peruvian response did not take long. A peruvian corner was whipped into the box and the bouncing ball deflected off Yerry Mina and despite Ospina’s best efforts crossed the Colombian goal line.

With this result, Colombia remain second in Group B with 4 points, behind leaders Brazil on 6. Peru is in third, with 3 points, followed by Venezuela, with 2 and Ecuador with just 1 point.
