Claudio Bravo, a CONMEBOL Copa América™ Hero, Retires

The goalkeeper, champion in 2015 and 2016, has brought his sports career to an end.

  • He was the oldest player to participate in the world’s oldest national team tournament in the 21st century.

Claudio Bravo announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41, after a successful career that includes two CONMEBOL Copa América™ titles and multiple club trophies. The goalkeeper was part of the most recent edition of the tournament and started in Chile's first two Group Stage matches.


How was Bravo's career in the CONMEBOL Copa América™?


The Chilean played in seven editions of the tournament: 2004, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2024. He finished with 27 matches, making him one of the 10 players with the most appearances in the tournament’s history.


Moreover, he was a champion in the 2015 and 2016 editions, which were Chile's first CONMEBOL Copa América™ titles. On both occasions, he was named the Tournament's Best Goalkeeper.

Claudio Bravo's Clubs


The Chilean’s career spanned five clubs, all of which he thanked in his farewell video: Colo-Colo (Chile), Manchester City (England), Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona, and Real Betis (all three from Spain). He won 20 titles, including a Champions League with FC Barcelona.
